Liz Brown

ABOUT ME

Liz Brown grew up in an adopted family in Grand Rapids. How she came to live with her parents is what makes her story unique. While on a missionary trip in the Dominican Republic Liz’s parents found her on the door step of a fire station. With no one to claim her Liz’s parents brought her home to Michigan and adopted her.

Liz grew up in a transracial family with love and guidance. She identified as a black until she learned her true story, that she was actually Dominican.

This new information further confused what was becoming a difficult pre-teen existence, “I remember feeling like I stuck out all the time and having to constantly explain my family.” Liz was beginning to lose her tolerance for answering the question, Why are you a different color than your white parents?

Liz’s adoption experience is what inspired her to write “The ABC’s of Adoption”.

Liz noticed there weren’t many books that talked about adoption, especially from the perspective of people of different colors and ethnicities. She wanted to help other kids and their families understand what it’s like to be adopted.

Liz’s book is for kids 4 years old and up. It helps them understand all the unique things about being adopted. It talks about the challenges, the feelings, and the cool experiences that come with adoption. It’s also a chance for kids to learn that there are all kinds of families and they’re not alone in their adoption journey.

Liz’s book isn’t just for children. It also serves as a resource for parents, foster care workers, teachers and anyone else who interacts with an adopted child.
